Global strategy paper #2

This is my second paper for my Strategy in the Global Economy class, which focused on the new global dynamics of consumption and marketing. I completed this assignment independently and was required to submit it midway through the course. The prompt for this assignment was lengthy, asking for a discussion of the “retail revolutions” of Sears, Walmart, and Amazon. I was required to analyze the impact of their innovations on societies and cultures, specifically how they overwhelmed their competitors, shifted the center of power away from the “push economy” towards the “pull economy”, the negative social and economic consequences of their “revolutions”, identify the winners and losers in each scenario, and more. The was another paper that required me to synthesize a large amount of information about each company over time. In addition to learning companies’ strategies over time, how they innovated, who they affect, and how they communicate/respond to these things, I practiced articulating this information in a concise, compelling fashion.

STRATEGY IN THE GLOBAL ECONOMY LEARNING OUTCOMES: 1) discuss the issues, problems, challenges, and opportunities that arise from the confluence of commerce, culture and politics under the current regime of globalization, 2) critically analyze key global trends transforming our world and its commerce, 3) identify, negotiate, overcome, and utilize the aforementioned cross-border differences strategically.
